SOLAR HOT WATER
Tapping into the sun!
November 8,
10:00 am – 4:00 pm
Fee: $85.00 (includes lunch, refreshments and snacks)
Maximum number of participants: 8 No technical skills required.
Hot water is something we use every day: for showers, doing dishes, doing
laundry, cleaning…But making all that hot water is the
second-largest power hog in your home (after home heating)…! And
with fuel prices rising faster than your wallet can even hope to follow,
this may be a good time to start thinking about alternatives. The solution:
solar hot water. Free, convenient, proven, and relatively simple. A good
solar hot water system pays for itself in 5-7 years, and every time energy
prices go up again it pays for itself even faster. It also means that
a lot less greenhouse gasses are getting released into the atmosphere.
Join us for a practical workshop on installing a basic solar hot water
system. You’ll see the components needed for a “closed loop
system”, be involved in putting the system together, find out about
other designs, and learn about “make-your-own” and “off-the
shelf” systems.
co-ordinator: Gaétan Ayotte
Gaétan is a veteran teacher with over 16 years of professional
experience. For him, teaching is a process of giving power to others.
He is also a person who attempts to put his principles into practice.
His wife Karen and he have lived off grid in a modern efficient home
for the last 13 years. Their home is powered by the sun and wind and
their vehicle operates partly on bio-diesel. They also garden extensively
for their food production. In this way, they have some measure of control
over their energy usage and production. What Gaétan teaches,
he attempts to live.
