Learning Project:
Building A Strawbale House in Two Weeks Flat.
July 30 - August 10
9:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
$500.00
This project is a first for Northern Ontario and goes beyond the scope of any workshop. It is a unique opportunity to be hands-on involved in constructing a complete functional strawbale building in 2 weeks flat. There is simply no better way to learn all the ins and outs of strawbale building construction than by doing it yourself under the expert guidance of strawbale designer/builder Dale Brownson.
This project will include some classroom learning in combination with plenty of hands-on involvement. There will be ample room for Q&A, and plenty of good food, great company, and after-dinner fun. At the end of the 2 weeks you’ll have helped construct a complete strawbale guesthouse from scratch, and have gained enough knowledge to undertake a similar project on your own. Additionally, each participant will receive a photo log of the project as well as a construction drawing of the building.
Fee: $ 500.00 for 10 days, including lunch, tea/coffee/juice, snacks
and suppers.
Those who wish can book a room at the Eco Centre for the duration of
this workshop at the discounted rate of
$ 50.00 (single) and $ 60.00
(double), including breakfast. Please let us know in advance.
co-ordinator: Dale Brownson
Dale Brownson has been designing straw bale homes for the past seven
years, following a life of working in the building industry as a carpenter,
cabinetmaker and designer. The priority of his work is to spread the
word about sustainable building practices and facilitate their use in
today's complex building industry, as well as to nurture the development
of creative approaches to building and living. He has now completed
plans for fifty straw bale homes (including the Nolalu Eco Centre) and
continues to face the challenges inherent in the use of sustainable
building practices today. Dale has also been a practicing artist throughout
his life and will continue to create and exhibit art for the rest of
his days on this planet, hopefully combining this with natural building
design at every opportunity.
